Animal Crossing and me

I was not a “gamer” growing up. My household never has a gaming console or anything, we had one computer which first resided in the living room and then in my sister’s room, which was off-limits most of the time. I liked Wizard101 and Disney Stitch sandwich stacking kind of games. Animal Crossing never was on my radar; I didn’t know what Nintendo was. At some point there was a PlayStation 2 in my life, but I honestly do not remember when or how, and I only have vague memories of the Harry Potter games.
During the pandemic I was working in hospitality and did not have time off like seemingly the rest of the world – so cozy game boom of 2020 just barely missed me. All this to say that I first played New Horizons in about 2022, probably few months after the 2.0 update came out. Like most people, my love for New Horizons is like the ocean waves that come and go, but the franchise has established itself in my heart and made me curious about older games as well.
Months of passionate YouTube video watching later, I now own a homebrewed Nintendo 3DS XL and play New Leaf every day. I am in the market for a Wii U and GameCube as well.

Why “Peridot”

As I was born in August, my birthstone just happens to be a peridot. I always jokingly say that peridot also sounds like period. Both my New Leaf town and my New Horizons island are named Peridot. I like thinking that it’s like an alternate universe of one place.

Themes

Island themes that I enjoy the most in general are citycore and towncore. Some theme combinations that I like and/or want to try are:

  • Witchcore in woods with a swamp,
  • Nighttime fairycore,
  • Japanese inspired, natural island,
  • Normcore! Where I focus on gameplay features instead of decorating.

My Favorite Villagers are Ostriches

I was streaming on YouTube a few years back, mostly sims 4 and animal crossing. My ACNH island was called Syterra (something that sounds like psychological terror?) and was a dystopian citycore island with many villagers that were unconventional. One of the dreamies for that island was Sprocket, a jock ostrich villager which has a robot design. I realized that the ostriches in general have quite cool designs – Sprocket is a robot, Flora looks like a flamingo, Julia is a peacock, Rio has literal stars on her cheeks and Queenie is my favorite color and has the alt microbangs of my dreams! Ever since then I think ostriches have become my favorite Animal Crossing species. Sure, there are other species that I like many of the villagers of, but ostriches seem to have a special place in my heart.
